“Like a more melancholy, late night Richard Hawley, McShane shares his gift of story telling and character creation”.

And here’s a Redeemer Central review by Leah Gallant.
“Even dreamier and maybe even sadder [than] Death Cab for Cutie… Tom’s voice is not unlike Ben Gibbard’s but still unique”.

Thank you both so much for your kind, kind words.

I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be supporting the wonderful Nina Nastasia when she visits Belfast early next month. Like many of you, it was the late John Peel who brought her music into my life. The first of her songs I heard was That’s All There Is from The Blackened Air which Peel played on his show some time in the early 2000s. That album holds a high place in my top ten albums of all time (though as I write, I’m listening to her latest, Outlaster on shiny 180 gram vinyl and it’s right up there with her finest work).

For me, having the chance to perform with Ms Nastasia is as big a deal as it would be to open for any of my other heroes and I’ll probably get seriously nervous and and more than a little starstruck. Considering the regard in which I hold her music, it seems somehow hard to believe that I’ll be in the same room as her, and that the room will be upstairs in Auntie Annies seems seriously surreal. My talents will look meagre and silly aside hers, but I don’t really care about that. Besides, most singers-who-wrtite-songs would be in the same boat.

I strongly recommend you come along. Artists of this calibre are few in number to begin with and to get to see one perform in such an intimate setting is a rare treat.

Oh by the way, I covered That’s All There Is for an ATL session back in 2007 which is still online over here.

NINA NASTASIA w/Tom McShane
Auntie Annies, Dublin Rd, Belfast
9th December
8.30pm
£9

For those of you who were there, I hope this serves as a nice reminder of some of the fun we had that day. That having been said, Gregg’s made an excellent film and you certainly didn’t have to be there to enjoy it. Either way, it’s a taster, sotospeak, of the album to come!
